PEPPERMINT  PLANT Mentha Piperita

Small, spring plants ready for potting in the greenhouse, which have been dug up recently from our peppermint, herb garden area.

Mint likes partial shade and room to spread!

We grow this peppermint along shady borders of the herb garden area.

A hardy perennial, which can grow two to three feet tall, including the flowering spikes.  The leaves are a moss green color of this heirloom type grown here at the farm. It grows pale, lilac flowers in the summer around late July if not clipped down.

This mint plant has a strong aroma of peppermint. Mint is also used for medicinal use and flavoring purposes. This plant will spread underground by growing root shoots in early spring and the plants can become prolific.

We use the fresh mint leaves as a flavoring in beverages and the dry leaves in hot teas in the wintertime. We also may add some stalks in flower arrangements for the wonderful smell in the house!
