One year old field grown Lemon Balm plants
transplanted into large pots for sale. Here at the farm this plant self
seeds small, baby plants every year.
Lemon Balm makes a great border plant in the garden
and will usually reproduce on their own annually. They seem to like
growing in our strawberry beds!

A Tender Perennial that grows to over a foot
high with small white flowers in the summer. The refreshing, lemon
scented leaves of the plant are used in teas and for flavoring in
cooking. (Lemon balm cookies have been one of my favorites at the
farmers market.) This plant is from the Mint family (Lamiaceae) and also
used for medicinal purposes as a tea or oil.
This plant likes partial to full sun in a loamy, well drained, damp
soil and can survive our harsh winters with some fall protection such as
a leaf or hay mulch. We grow this plant mainly as an ingredient for
making dry teas in the winter, but a few fresh leaves, in ice
water, ice tea or lemonade is nice in the summer.
