CHIVES  Allium schoenoprasum

Chives are usually grown in bunches and divided every 3 to 4 years.
We divide the young chives plants in early spring for planting and also take fresh cuttings for drying and cooking with.

A hardy perennial herb which grows to about 1 foot high with purple flowers in early summer. This plant has cylindrical green leaves and is used fresh and dried, as garnish for soups and salads and in herb butter and cream cheese. It has a mild onion flavor and is easy to grow.

You can grow chives indoors in a pot near a sunny window. It prefers a well drained soil and a cool temperature. The purple flowers contain the black seeds of the Chive plant.
